YIN YOGA, what is it and why do we need to practice it?

Yin yoga stretches (building flexibility) extend the deep connective tissues between and around the muscles, and the fascia in your body. The goal is to improve circulation in the joints and increase our flexibility as we hold the poses in a stretch for 1-5 Minutes. The lower body is abundant in connective tissues, therefore most YIN YOGA POSES are done seated or laying down on your mat. The practice can be done literally anywhere, where you find a quiet space.

The areas we hold in a passive way (yin floor poses) are hips, inner thighs, lower and upper back, pelvis and hamstrings. You wanna work your way from 1 Minute to 5 Minutes or even longer, as you feel your muscles releasing and the tension in the joint melting.

Where did YIN YOGA come from?

The teachings of YIN (not moving) in theWestern World started in the late 1970’s and was started by martial arts expert Taoist yoga teacher Paulie Zink (Wikipedia). Since then, many other yoga teachers have adapted yin yoga to their routines and communities.

WHY I DO YIN YOGA

As a full-time Yoga Instructor and Fitness-Health Coach I practice yin yoga several times a week. Sometimes just 10 Minutes or longer as time permits. The benefits are accumulative and your flexibility will soar. I keep my body lean and strong with weights, HIIT training and yoga. Yin Yoga is my maintenance and repair session.
